Old Values- Obsolete or Classics?

A paradigm shift has occurred on this planet we call home, and it has to do with the value one has for themselves.

Chivalry, waiting until you are married for sex, manners, deportment...these are some of the things that one must possess in abundance to be considered having a high value of themselves.

Word through the grapevine is that these things are dead. However, they aren't just hanging on by a thread, about to kick the bucket, they are hidden behind a facade of people not wanting to conform and who want to exercise their right for freedom of expression.

Think about it. Isn't it amazing that going against the grain and breaking away from the herd of society, normally means losing values? Case in point- years ago a pants was found at the waist and held in place with a belt, now due to person not wanting to stay with those values of long ago, some defiant person said," its my right to express myself, I shouldn't have to wear my belt at my waist and keep my boxers covered, I brought my boxers with a design so the world should see my design!" And lo and behold, a new way of thinking (paradigm) emerged and now where ever you go boxers and low waist belts are staring at you.

However, should those values really be thrown out of the window because they are 'old ways' of thinking.
Some things just never go out of style. To be honest, there is nothing wrong with opening a door for a lady, waiting till you found someone that you want to be with forever, saying good morning to strangers or wearing your clothes to actually cover areas that should be left to the imagination.

I believe that the world is taking a turn into a deep abyss where not having values is the new values...before we used to look at people who didn't say good morning or wear their clothes to fit as the strangers of the society and today, it is people with the old time values that are regarded as strange, outcasts and/or outsiders.

Being a virgin at 20 is now a miracle and you are to be seen as a joke, having a baby at 14 isn't seen worth the effort to even 'drop ya jaw' as it is becoming common place.

Just look at yourself, and ask, is it worth it to fit in nowadays at the expensive of seeming to have a low value on myself? Is not conforming to certain aspects of society really moving me forward or sending me back.

I can't answer it for you, just to point out that not all old things are obsolete, some of them become classics and thus should be preserved.

Here's to positive people!

  1. Great Post. I heard though that the low waist pants came from prison and I totally believe most of society conforms because they are sheep. That being said, I don't think all the old values have been thrown out the window. The world changes, some can be/have been modified while others can/should/have stayed the same. Your values are yours personally. Just know they reflect who you are. A little self respect goes a long way.
