A great man, in the island of Barbados named The Hon. Errol Walton Barrow once asked " what mirror image do you have of yourself?'
I've found myself asking this question recently along with the questions...what image do others see when they look at me and which image, theirs or mine' matters most?
Let's focus on the image of yourself. Yes, there is plastic surgery, make up and all sorts of fangle dangled techniques one can you to improve your looks. However, this isn't the image Errol Barrow was talking about. Any one can look good, but can you be beautiful?
Bet you just tried to take a closer look in that mirror, cause that person starting back just discovered a flaw...No person is a saint, however if you think of all the actions you have done through out your lifetime and the majority of your actions make you proud, then that person in the mirror is more than good looking, you are drop dead gorgeous or handsome!
But if your thoughts cause you to grimace then, don't begin to despair, if you want to change, it's never too late, except for when you stop breathing.
So right now, think about it...are you comfortable with the you that you are today?
Now, what do people see when they look at you...or a more accurate question is what do they think they see when they look at you. As confusing as it is that statement just answered the third question I've been asking myself.
If people only see what you want them to see, does their opinion matter. Someone may think you have a bad personality and never know if there is a reason to make you that way. They see the you that is put forth, not the you that you would find alone at home.
So other people's view of you, while it is important, is not more important than your own. Be true with yourself and others will see that you shine through, no matter what persona you have on. If you are seen as bad but the image you see of yourself isn't bad at all it will push through and everyone will see the you that you believe you are.
Do things that make you proud and you will never have cause to doubt the mirror image you have. And people will always see a glimpse of the real you.
So the moral of this post, be the you behind close doors in public.
Here's to positive people!
I wonder what your inspiration is. I see different points protruding from this article but I can not piece them together. The whole mirror image of yourself vs. what people see has me confused somewhat. I don't really think it is possible to show society a different you unless you suffer from a personality disorder.
ReplyDeleteIf you are upset and don't want anyone to know, you put on a 'i'm ok face' and you continue to act like nothing is wrong then they see what you want them to see, or if you do not like someone but when you are around then you act like everything is aight, that's you being a different you outside in public than you are behind closed doors. Hope that clears it up for you.
